Fake Thumb

Classwork - 2019

Materials: Various Smooth-On silicones, gel wax, latex, fake bone, fake nail, Smooth-On ultimate blood, plaster bandages, silicone paint

This thumb was part of an independent study that I did. The study was focused on props, specifically those involving casting and molding.

I made this thumb by creating a mold solo of my own left thumb with Smooth-On Body Double. I wrapped it in a plaster support shell and did a small slush casting with flesh pigmented Smooth-On Dragon Skin to get the skin casing for the thumb. I then used a chip brush and silicone Psycho Paint to dab on some orange, yellow, purple, and red to get a realistic bruised skin tone. I added a thin layer of latex on the inside for some fascia effects, stuck in a latex muscled bone, and filled the cavity with red gel candle wax. I attached the thumb nail with latex and nail glue, and painted on the blood around the bone and nail using Ultimate Blood.
