Victorian Cat Chaise

Classwork - 2023

Materials: Poplar, bendy-ply, upholstery foam, 373 spray adhesive, batting, muslin, cheap stretch velvet, scenic paints, house paints

This Victorian Cat Chaise was made somewhat for a class in furniture construction, but mostly because I had always wanted a place for my dramatic cats to lounge appropriately. The structure of this chaise is made primarily from poplar, with the seat and back base being 1/2" plywood and bendy-ply respectively. The carvings were inspired by various Victorian couches and carved with a dremel rotary tool. Everything in the main structure is attached with dowel joints, including about a dozen supports to withstand any cat shenanigans. The upholstery has a base of muslin before the velvet to allow for the lower quality velvet to be smooth.
