For this paper project, I was given the writing prompt, “So you’ve been kicked out of heaven. Now what?” to work from. From this, I created a storyline of an angel being banished to purgatory in punishment, a grey world with heaven and hell to either side just out of reach. Throughout this story, they are tempted to the underworld by a demon that promises freedom while another angel begs the protagonist to be patient.
The main feature of this is the soldered gate that I made to be hinged into the proscenium, the curling pieces carefully bent to mirror each other. Beyond the paint treatment, 3D printed pieces make up the majority of heaven and hell, bushes and grass on heaven’s side and junkyard-esque scraps on hell’s. A sprinkle of colorful chiffon decorates heaven to imply petals.
