Dagger/Rapier Sheathe

Classwork - 2019

Materials: Leather, water-based leather dye, leather paint, artificial sinew, rivets

This sheathe was created to explore leather working in costume crafts. I started by creating a pattern and cutting it from tooling leather. My dragon scale design was stamped on, and the sigil (designed as a family crest by by brother) was tooled onto the main piece. Necessary holes for rivets and sewing were punched into the leather. Leather dye was daubed on to make everything black and the design was painted in. After paints and dyes, rivets were hammered in and a saddle stitch with sinew was used to sew everything together.
